I remember, especially during busy times, I would feel that knot that something wasn’t right. I was frustrated more easily over the stupidest of things. Weekends were for catching up, whether with friends, family, errands, household chores or, as was more common, more work. Whatever I didn’t get done during the week because of whatever fire drill popped up, that became my weekend. My week – bled into the weekend. I couldn’t “rest” (what was that anyways).
Something was off; no, I was off. I couldn’t take even a baby step forward in the master plan I devised to tackle my next personal goal. But don’t worry, that was well hidden, my execution was stellar for everyone else. Everyone else was fine.
So I started to slow down, dive a bit deeper and figure some shit out.
When my clients ask how to make a shift or move forward on a goal, there are so many tools that can be used. “But we can’t do that in just one hour” – you’re right. We don’t fix all the “problems” or the world’s issues. But it’s that baby step forward.
As we start to discuss tools – overwhelm can set in if some of them are new. Usually I hear, “that all sounds great, Gina, but I don’t have time to do that.”
Ok great! We start where you are. When I was working 14+ hour days, I started stopping for one moment (even getting up while in the middle of a contract review).
I paused…
I took a deep breath…
I asked myself how I was feeling, and I would name it OR I would close my eyes and focus on any physical sensation I could pinpoint.
For those 30 seconds or so, I was off the hamster wheel. I was present.
And honestly, this refocus allowed me to go back to what I was doing with fresh eyes.
This simple exercise can extend in time or even to asking yourself there was anything you needed – glass of water, a snack, a stretch.
Reminder: not every method needs to be a 30 min meditation or an hour long workout class.
It begins with a pause and a breath – and a call to learn more. Book in your FREE Exact Next Step strategy call here
